Value Plates

We had a fun little activity with the laurels. Our lesson the previous sunday was on Spiritual gifts. For an activity We bought plates at the dollar store and on each plate wrote one of the young women values. I baked each plate at 425 for 30 minutes and let it cool overnight.  We decided to give plates to sisters in the ward that represented that value. It was so amazing to hear the Laurels decide what sisters should get certain plates. We had a list of about 5-6 sisters for each value. It was so hard to narrow it down! We wish we would have made more plates (: The YW each brought cookies to put on the plates.

We attached a card that said
Thank you for being a great example of our Young women value : ______________
The laurels all signed the card and delivered it to the 8 sisters. I think it something we should make a yearly tradition!!

* After telling a lady in Jane's ward about the plates, they decided to do this for their NEW BEGINNINGS. They chose the sisters and then invited them to their new beginnings. They told the sisters to dress in the color of value they received. They had a Laurel tell a little about why they chose that particular sister for that value. They then had the sister talk for just a minute. I thought it was a cute idea!

Evening in Excellence

We had our Evening in Excellence this past week. It turned out Beautiful. I have some pretty amazing leaders! We couldn't do any of it without the amazing Jane.
Our theme for the evening was Stand in Holy Places: Live your life Higher. We wanted something that went well with the general YW theme as well as our ward UP theme.

I loved the talk by Joseph Wirthlin Journey to Higher Ground
For my talk, I used some of his talk as well as things from Henry B Eyrings new book Choose Higher Ground
We had it in the cultural hall, and I Loved how it turned out. I found the giant 36'' balloons and the plastic nets on amazon for $1 each. I only put these on 3 of the tables. On the other 6 tables we had pictures of different temples, and a little green & white floral arrangement

Jane painted this HUGE picture of The SLC temple. It is 11 feet by 9 feet. Most of the parents took pictures of their daughters in front of the temple.
I had the Young Women cut out these cute lil clouds.
We had each YW bring a few things to display. We told them it could be things they had done for Personal Progress or anything good they had been doing.
Here is a closer look at the Hot air balloons we made

I found these aluminum bracelet cuffs on etsy for $1 each. I hand stamped them with our theme Live your life Higher. I did find a local trophy shop that would have engraved them for $5 each but that wasn't quite in our budget. It took me some time but it was worth it to me to save money!

I had 6 girls sing the song Temple Spires by Jenny Phillips. I had them sing this as our opening song. It really set the mood for the rest of the evening. It was beautiful.

 Our program:
Opening song
Dinner
YW President talk
Video of all the girls doing good things throughout the year
Laurel Talk ( a girl that has received her medallion this year)
Bishop Remarks
Displays

Conference Treat

I like to give my YW a cute little treat during conference weekend. Just so they know that I am thinking about them even though we aren't at church together! I have seen a lot of these cute paper witch shoes with mint oreos for the stockings.I thought they would be perfect for our 2013 YW theme Stand in Holy Places.

Temple Time Capsules

For the last month we have had our YW work on Temple Time Capsules. We encouraged them to not open them until they are engaged to be married.
(temple picture found HERE  I added the ingredient part. It can be found below)

We checked out a Canner from our Local Cannery to Seal the cans. The girls thought this was sooo cool.
After a month of gathering and making things to put in their cans we had a combined YW activity to seal the cans. It was such a fun night. We made it like a mock wedding reception
Here is the invite. I found this cute gold and embossed card at walmart for super cheap!
Then just printed the info on gold velum
I had the leaders bring their wedding dresses. It was so fun to see all the different styles. My mom had a bunch of doors we have used for wedding. They were perfect to hang the dresses on.

We had chicken salad sandwiches, fruit, and alittle candy "bar". I picked a few fresh flowers from Janes garden just to help pretty up the place

I also had the leaders bring wedding pictures. The girls thought this was so fun!
The Miamaids had fun activity for us. They had all the leaders sit at this table. They asked us questions about dating/marriage.
ex. What is our favorite date, how did we know we were in love, How can they prepare to be married in the temple, How our husbands proposed, etc...
Here are a few of the sheets we had the girls fill out before hand.
(just right click and save to your computer to print)

We took pictures of the girls at the temple to put in their can.

I printed these labels on Shipping Labels I found at Walmart. You can get 2 to a page. They are an Avery product. Each label measures 5.5''x8.5''

The can is a suppose to be physical reminder in their room to keep the temple in their sights.

For a combined activity we had the girls make wedding Collages. I went to local bridal shops and got old catalogues and magazines. I also went to paint stores to get paint chip cards. We had the girls put what cakes, dresses, rings, colors, etc... on their collages. It was a great opportunity to also talk about modesty and virtue.  I also went to the distribution center and got a few free articles, and pamphlets about happy marriages written by the prophets. I also grabbed a couple things about finance and virtue.

We also made Temple Recommend holders. I just got plastic badge holders from walmart for $1.50 for a pack of 8. And bought a little temple picture card at the Distribution center. I had the girls write a note to themselves on the back of the card.

The Laurels made cute little handkerchief dresses. I found a tutorial here
We didn't tell the girls but we also had their parents, leaders, and the bishop write them all letters. I told them it could be anything. A letter with their testimony of the temple, a thank you card, a congratulations note. I think the girls will love this.
The Beehives made a cute little heart bracelets.  I forgot to take a picture sorry. They had an activity at BYU where one of their dads works and they got to make these amazing wooden discs for each of the girls and leaders. How cool is that?
It was a great night. My SIL had done it a few months ago with her YW and I have been excited to do it for months. The girls all had a great time and I know it will be an activity that was meaningful and that they will remember!

P.I.E night

We had a pp activity last week. We called it a P.I.E night.
Personal progress Interviews and a lil Extra.
WE told the girls a couple weeks prior  to work on personal progress for our pp activity coming up. I told them they would earn tickets for each new experience they passed off before the activity. The tickets would go into a raffle and the winner got to throw a PIE in my face (I'm the YW president)
They also got tickets for bringing their PP book and for being on time. If they had already earned their medallion they got 5 tickets. After they had their little PP interview that night (just a casual interview to see where they were at in PP) they got a ticket. If they set a new goal they got a ticket etc...
I had the them write their names on the tickets and put them in a bowl. Some of the girls were nervous and said they didn't want to throw a pie in my face. I told them not to be silly and it was going to be fun!! I also told them they could write someone else's name on the ticket if they wanted. The girls thought that was fun and started trying to earn to tickets to write someone else's name instead!
The girl that "won" was a little hesitant but after I egged her on a little she threw the pie. SO FUNNY!! I teased them saying that if by the next Personal Progress activity if they haven't passed anything off I get to throw a pie in their face (:

I sent a sign up sheet around in RS and asked sisters to make PIE's for our night. They were all so generous and we had so many yummmmmy pies!! I made the pie that would be thrown. Just chocolate pudding and a little whipped cream!

That night we had 3 stations.
1. eat pie and interviews
2. we tied a quilt
3. a little icebreaker getting to know you game.

Value Colors

For our Laurel Class activity this week we made Crayon Art. The girls all did so well and they turned out soooo cute. We thought it would be a fun thing for the girls to display at Evening of Excellence. Michaels has a 10-pack (8x10 canvases) for $19.99.  I used a 50% off coupon making them $1.00 Each. Because it is back to school time most stores have crayons on sale! We found ours at Walmart
they were $0.50 for a 24 pack. Total cost $1.50
Such a cute craft to showcase the YW value colors!

1- layout pattern of crayons
2- Hot glue gun crayons to canvas
3- We placed our canvas in a cardboard box in case the crayon splattered. Put it upright with a slight angle so the wax can melt down.
4- With hair dryer on HOT and LOW setting hold about 4'' away from crayons keeping hairdryer in motion across small section of crayons.
5- Crayons start to melt. Melt to desired pattern or look.

You can find a million tutorials on youtube! It was a quick, easy, and fun activity.

Youth Fireside {AL FOX}

Back in May we were blessed with the opportunity to hear from Sister Al Fox. In April she was Featured in LDS Living Magazine (click to read full article)  . She came and spoke to our youth for a fireside. Her Message was so beautiful and sincere. She is an amazing example of courage and conviction. She talked about not giving up and to always TRY!!
From an article in the Deseret News (click to read full article)
"I had to make a decision. And it's a decision I have to make every day. One you have to make every day. Several times a day. And what that is, to choose to get mad. Choose to get offended. Bothered. Confused. Or ... not.
The decision to keep going. The decision to be happy and follow the Spirit and counsel given ... or not. Choose to have faith. Choose to trust. Or not. What it came down to, and what it always will come down to, is choose God. Or not."
You can read more about her and her story HERE  She also has several youtube videos HERE that are Amazing!!

Girls Camp 2013

Sorry for the lack of posts. My Computer kinda went kapoot. But I have the new one up and running (: We had girls camp last month. It was such a fun week. it's a great excuse to kind of "unplug" from the world. It was Stake camp this year and the theme was Rise-up I'll be what he wants me to be. We were excited because it went so well with our wards 2013 theme Adventure awaits. Each ward was a different Value & Color. We were Faith-White. The stake all had the same hoodies but we decided our ward wanted t-shirts as well. They turned out really cute!
This was the Back. I like to design shirts that I feel the girls can wear again without it screaming GIRLS CAMP!!

For one of our crafts we had the girls paint their own Hot Dog sticks. They loved it!
We also made several different headbands to make our camp hair cute! They all turned out so cute. I forgot to take pictures of the head bands at camp but luckily I had a cute lil model at home! I found a tutorial at CraftinMechanic

We also had the girls decorate pillowcases with sharpies. It went with our PJ devotional one night.
