Be Unique

For our Combined lesson this month I thought the girls needed to hear how special and unique they were. It ended up being a great lesson.
I played this clip from President Uchtodorfs talk You are not Forgotten
I also played the song Walk Tall, You're a Daughter of God
I attached this to a little glittery snowflake I purchased at Walmart for $1.97 for a pack of 20

Lesson #43 lm3 Associations with Others

(photo from Real simple)
I love paperwhites especially for the holidays. I saw on Flower &Water Design how to "force bulbs into bloom". I gave each girl a vase (from the dollar store) with one bulb started. I already had the rocks but I know the dollar store sells them in 32 oz bags.
I saw this photo after I made mine. Maybe Mason jars would be even cheaper???
They take about 4-6 weeks to grow. Just in time for Christmas. I attached this little handout

Lesson #42 lm3 preparing for change

I had made these magnets last year for a lesson (see Here). I wasn't teaching this lesson but thought this would go well with the lesson.

Lesson #39 lm3 Recognizing our Individual Worth

My Laurel Adviser taught this lesson today. She had a little "letter" she has saved from when she was in Young womens. She gave all the girls a copy. I thought it was so sweet and went perfect with the lesson. At the beginning of class she had the girls anonymously write nice things about each other. We read them later in the lesson and the girls all loved hearing the nice things that were said. I just typed it up so it would be 4x6''. I have been trying to keep most handouts that size. They are easy to print, and I thought the girls could keep them all in a little photo album.
Just click on picture. Then right click and save to your computer.

I also thought this could be cute for halloween. Either give apples or a mirror.
This talk went well with it.
I got the image from googleimages

Lesson #38 lm3 Good Health Habits

Attach to a Water Bottle. I found mine at Winco.

For our combined YW activity this week we had a lady come teach ZUMBA. It was so much fun.We couldn't use the gym in our church because of some construction. We improvised and went outside in the parking lot. I think it ended up being better. It was a little dark and the perfect temp! The girls loved it!

Lesson 35 lm3 Dating Decisions

For this weeks handout I thought the April 2010 the New Era Magazine would be perfect. It is a special issue: dating for beginners. I thought it had some really good topics, and talks.
It is $1.50 a magazine. They can be ordered HERE or call the LDS Global Service Center 1-800-537-5971
You can view a pdf of the magazine HERE. If you wanted to just print a few articles from the magazine. But I thought for only $1.50 it would be fun for them to have the actual magazine

Lesson #32 lm3 Service in the Community

I loved Sister Mary Cooks talk from April 2011 Remember This: Kindness Begins With Me
I thought it would go perfect when talking about service.
I made these little Kindness (service) cards to give to each of my girls. I gave each girl a sheet of 9.
I told them to to do 4 acts of service in the next couple weeks. Each time they did a service I told them to fill out this little card to give to the person, and then also to give the person a blank card That they could fill out to give to someone after they do some service.
Kind of like a service chain letter (:

Lesson 30 lm3 Scripture Study

I thought it would be fun to do a cute little bookmark for this lesson. They are super cheap and sooooo easy...  My kind of handout!

These are the supplies you'll need:
Black elastic cording about 13'' each book mark
For flower book mark: Cording, felt flower. I found a pattern HERE @ MAKE IT AND LOVEIT
They used wool felt. I just used some cheap felt I had on hand.
For the Button bookmark: Cording, scrap piece of fabric cut using the pattern on the back of the package. And a button making kit. (they are pretty cheap at hobby lobby)
Glue Gun

I cut my cording about 13'' and tied it in a square knot on the ends. I then burned the edges with a lighter to avoid fraying. Next just hot glue your embellishment on the knot. That's it!

YW lesson #23 lm3 Overcoming Opposition

President Ezra Taft Benson gave 12-steps to overcoming opposition. This is what I focused most of my lesson on.
This handout is 4x6
(click on image 1st to enlarge in new window, then right click and save to your pictures)

I liked the talk by Joseph B Wirthlin HERE. There is a part in it about butterflies. I will wrap the cupcakes up like I did HERE to give to each girl.

YW lesson #22 lm3 Eternal Perspective

I Liked the part in the lesson where it said "An Eternal Perspective helps us see things as they are, were, and will be."
I'm not actually teaching this lesson so I just made simple little handout.

YW lesson #21 lm3 Learning to Share the Gospel

For this weeks handout I tried to think of something Shiny. I knew I wanted my handout to be about Matthew 5:13-16 but I didn't want to use a candle, or flashlight. I was trying to think of something fun. I was at a local party store ZURCHERS and saw a 12 pack of lip gloss that I thought would be cute. Gloss=shine a little bit of a stretch but it works

I just printed it 4x6 on my own printer, and mounted it on some yellow card stock. You could just as easily print them at Costco, walmart etc... For best print quality Click on picture 1st to open in a different window. Then right click and save picture to your computer.

Another Idea that I thought would be cute and cheap would to make the girls Bath Salt.

Lesson #20 lm3 Understanding Missionary's Responsibility

IDEA 1) see tutorial below
IDEA 2- I made these cute lil paper shirts for a lesson last year SEE Tutorial HERE  I think it would work great for this lesson too.

I had seen a tutorial HERE a few years ago to make rings out of Shrinky Dinks. You know that plastic stuff you cook. So I made the girls these cute lil rings (costs less than 5 cents each to make). the c2s stands for Called to Serve. I thought it would be a good reminder to serve others. What better way to help us prepare for missions than to serve others.
I used the Shrinky Dink frosted ruff n ready. I bought it at Hobby Lobby for $5.99 then used my 40% off coupon. It comes with 10- 8x10 sheets

step 1. Cut your rings. To get a fit the size of a chap stick tube I cut mine 1'' by 4.75 inch then rounded the corners a little with scissors.
step 2. Color your design. Color on the frosted side. Because I was doing letters I had to reverse the letters. I just printed some on my computer reversed then traced them. The plastic is pretty see-through before cooking. I then wrote their names and drew some little birds with a little black sharpie marker.

You can also use rubber stamps with the Stazon Ink, or they even sell printable shrinkydink paper. I like to use the girls favorite colors whenever I can just to make things seem a little more personal.
step 3. Preheat oven to 325. put brown paper bag on the bottom of the pan. Cook design Frosted side up for 1-3 minutes.
Here it is all shrunk up (:
Step 4. quickly grab design from oven and wrap around object to get circle (chap stick tube, glue stick tube, marker, etc...). Face the frosted side towards your object so the outside will now be shiny! You have to do this step really quick because it hardens fast. I just pulled my baking tray out of the oven a little and grabbed the plastic with my fingers. I used little gloves for the first few and then got brave and used my bare hands. It was a little hot but not hot enough to burn (:

Lesson 18 lm3 Temple Marriage

I love this quote by Bruce R. Mcconkie.
I thought it would be fun for the girls to write a quick little note to their future husbands. I wonder what I would have said to my future Mr. Right?

a 4x6 to print at costco, walmart, etc...

or an

8.5x11 to print at home.

Lesson #16 & #17 lm3 Temple Endowment, Preparing to attend the Temple

Temple Recommend holders

I thought these would be perfect little holders for their temple recommends.

I bought these badge holders at Walmart, they were like $3 for a pack of 10 (in the office supplies section)
I used some of my scraps from scrapbooking. I like to use the girls favorite colors when I can, just to make things a little more personal for them. I added an initial sticker and used my label maker to type out their names.
