neighbor gift 2011

I love the look of luminaries. This is what we did for our neighbor gifts this year. We gave everyone a luminary kit.
5-white paper bags
5-tealights
about a pound of birdseed or kitty litter.
It was so fun to drive around the neighborhood and see all the luminaries.

Be Unique

For our Combined lesson this month I thought the girls needed to hear how special and unique they were. It ended up being a great lesson.
I played this clip from President Uchtodorfs talk You are not Forgotten
I also played the song Walk Tall, You're a Daughter of God
I attached this to a little glittery snowflake I purchased at Walmart for $1.97 for a pack of 20

The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus

My sis-in-law bought me this book a few years ago for our Favorite things night. It has become one of my favorite traditions. We sit down and read a chapter a night as a family. You can find it on Amazon

Lesson #43 lm3 Associations with Others

(photo from Real simple)
I love paperwhites especially for the holidays. I saw on Flower &Water Design how to "force bulbs into bloom". I gave each girl a vase (from the dollar store) with one bulb started. I already had the rocks but I know the dollar store sells them in 32 oz bags.
I saw this photo after I made mine. Maybe Mason jars would be even cheaper???
They take about 4-6 weeks to grow. Just in time for Christmas. I attached this little handout

Lesson #42 lm3 preparing for change

I had made these magnets last year for a lesson (see Here). I wasn't teaching this lesson but thought this would go well with the lesson.

Dreams Really Do Come True

We had our YW Evening of Excellence last night. It turned out so great. The theme for our night was Dreams Really Do Come True. I loved President Hinckley talk How to Become the Woman of Whom You Dream . SEE HERE
"We are here to accomplish something, to bless society with our talents and our learning... Let the Holy Spirit guide you in all that you do as you look to become the kind of woman of whom you dream"
A huge thanks to Jane for all her help!
Thanks to all the leaders, and presidency who made this night so special for the YW in our ward.

These were the invitations for the night

We asked the girls to have a display for the evening. A display of things they had been working on for Personal progress. I made these little name cards to put by their displays. I glued them to black cardstock with a 4x6 note card beneath it. On the note card they wrote a description of the Personal Progress goals they had completed or were working on.

We had 1/2 the room decorated in all white (dreamy). I had the old doors from a previous wedding, and I borrowed the amazing backdrop from a friend. I am definitely making myself one ASAP. It is strips of burlap, lace, & Muslin. I added white Christmas Lights along the top. (sorry the pics are a little blurry)
For the centerpieces we had fresh flowers on 5 of the tables and 5 glass hurricane vases on the others. We gave the flowers to the previous YW presidency as a thank you. The flowers I used were (salal, fuji mums, snowberries, snapdragons, and white roses)
On the other half of the room we had it bright and rainbow-y. This is where the YW displays were.

For dinner we made chicken cordon bleu. We had rice, peas, and homemade wheat bread. It all was Delicious!
I had the girls sing Over the Rainbow from the Wizard of Oz. It sounded beautiful. It is one of my favorite songs.
It has the line Dreams really do come true.
So for dessert we had these cute little rainbow cupcakes.

Lesson #39 lm3 Recognizing our Individual Worth

My Laurel Adviser taught this lesson today. She had a little "letter" she has saved from when she was in Young womens. She gave all the girls a copy. I thought it was so sweet and went perfect with the lesson. At the beginning of class she had the girls anonymously write nice things about each other. We read them later in the lesson and the girls all loved hearing the nice things that were said. I just typed it up so it would be 4x6''. I have been trying to keep most handouts that size. They are easy to print, and I thought the girls could keep them all in a little photo album.
Just click on picture. Then right click and save to your computer.

I also thought this could be cute for halloween. Either give apples or a mirror.
This talk went well with it.
I got the image from googleimages

Lesson #38 lm3 Good Health Habits

Attach to a Water Bottle. I found mine at Winco.

For our combined YW activity this week we had a lady come teach ZUMBA. It was so much fun.We couldn't use the gym in our church because of some construction. We improvised and went outside in the parking lot. I think it ended up being better. It was a little dark and the perfect temp! The girls loved it!

Conference weekend

I will be attaching this to a sweet roll (cinnamon roll). I am going to take them around to my YW on Sunday morning before conference starts.

At mutual this week I will give each girl an idea for a General Conference Value Project . Found HERE. A few weeks ago we decorated notebooks that they could use for this project. (Similar to these)

Wicked

I was in NYC last week and had the opportunity to see Wicked. I had been dying to see it FOR-EV-ER! I was not disappointed, I LOVED it! One of my favorite lines was when Elphaba said to Glinda "Well, we can't all come and go by bubble". I thought this would make a cute Halloween Printable.
This one is 16''x20''  Just right click and save to your photos.

Lesson 35 lm3 Dating Decisions

For this weeks handout I thought the April 2010 the New Era Magazine would be perfect. It is a special issue: dating for beginners. I thought it had some really good topics, and talks.
It is $1.50 a magazine. They can be ordered HERE or call the LDS Global Service Center 1-800-537-5971
You can view a pdf of the magazine HERE. If you wanted to just print a few articles from the magazine. But I thought for only $1.50 it would be fun for them to have the actual magazine

The Big Apple

My mother-in-law spoiled me (THANKS) with a trip to the big apple . I had such a great time.  I always have random pictures that I don't really want to scrapbook but want to remember. So my new favorite thing to do with them is to make alittle collage.

P Party

We had such a fun activity this last week. I am SO SAD I forgot to take pictures!

We had 3 stations and each lasted about 15 minutes
Pedicures- We had little tubs with peppermint salts for the girls to soak their feet. All the leaders just brought fingernail polish from home and they painted each others toe nails.
Pictionary- Our game only had words that started with P. (pageant, pickle, policeman etc...)
Personal Progress- This was a great time for our new Presidency to see where our girls were at in their personal progress.

We had lots of treats for the girls to munch on throughout the night. They loved the little pizza's (bagel bites).

I had a prize for the girl that came dressed in the most "P" items. I didn't know if the girls would really get in to that. But I LOVED when the girls showed up and were wearing so many layers they looked like the little boy in the movie Christmas Story. It was hilarious. There was everything from pink hair, to puffy parkas.

It was such a fun night!
