Christmas Neighbor/teacher/friend gift

We had our annual "favorite things" night with my cousins. One cousin gave us a box of movie theater candy and a dollar in an envelope that said "RED BOX MONEY". I thought it was so cute. I thought it would be the perfect neighbor gift but I felt weird about giving my neighbors $1. So I went online to redbox.com and found that you can purchase Promo Codes. They are $6.00 for 5. Each promo code is good for 1 free night rental. Perfect.  I emailed them to myself and then printed out the page that had all 5 promo codes on it. I then hand wrote the Promo code on this cute lil printable. Attach it to a bag or box of microwave popcorn. Perfect inexpensive gift for neighbors, friends, or teachers.

Shine: A night of stars

We had our Evening In Excellence this past week. It turned out great! The theme of the night was SHINE: A night of Stars
Of course I wish I would have taken more pictures...
Here are the Invitations
I gave each girl a card that they could put by their display. On the back the could explain the pp projects/values they have been working on, or write alittle about their hobbies and talents.
The gym looked so beautiful and really did SHINE!
These were the little gift bags we had to take home. They were filled with silver/gold candy and a star charm for their charm bracelets (SEE HERE)
all the cute little chalk board center pieces had quotes or scriptures about stars or shining.
This is the Display table. I love how it turned out!
My SIL also had her Evening In Excellence. She had a little different set up and I love how it turned out

Conference Socks

I saw this cute little idea on the blog BLUE SKIES AHEAD (see HERE). The free printable is on her blog. I used the idea for my YW. I found fuzzy socks at the dollar store and put them in cute little chevron bags and stapled the poem to the front.

value colors

For our Activity this week I took the girls to the temple. WE are so lucky to live close to so many. I told the girls to bring their digital cameras or their camera/phones. I gave them 20 minutes to walk around the temple grounds to take pics of things that had the value colors. I was so impressed with how creative they were. I asked them all to text or email me the images. I haven't got them all yet but I made one little poster with their images. I then told them about some values in their personal progress books to work on (things that had to do with the temple)

Lesson 31 lm1 Group Activities and wise dating

For this weeks handout I thought the April 2010 the New Era Magazine would be perfect. It is a special issue: dating for beginners. I thought it had some really good topics, and talks.
It is $1.50 a magazine. They can be ordered HERE or call the LDS Global Service Center 1-800-537-5971
You can view a pdf of the magazine HERE. If you wanted to just print a few articles from the magazine. But I thought for only $1.50 it would be fun for them to have the actual magazine

Super Hero Bday Party

My Son didn't want a bday cake (lucky ME!) he wanted "sprinkled donuts that look like captain America's shield"
I painted 4 superheroes that the kids could put their cute little face through. (EASY instructions at the bottom of this post) We also used them for a bean bag toss too.

These little batman capes were SOOO easy. 1 yard of black felt made 2 capes. I just traced a cape he had and cut it out. The felt was so nice and thick that I didn't have to hem or sew the edges (YEA) I let the kids choose what colored batman they wanted. They drew on the other side of their capes with white crayon. But throughout the party it kind of wore off ):  They just tied in the front around the neck.

I bought a cheap $8,  4'x8' piece of wood at home depot.  I had home depot cut 2 feet off each board (so they'd fit in the mini van) so each super hero is 4'x6'

The wood I bought had a shiny side so I put a coat of KILZ primer down first so my acrylics would have  alittle grip.

I printed a 4x6 coloring page of each superhero off the Internet and took it to a local copy store and had them copy it to a transparency. It was $1.25 and I could fit 2 superheros on each transparency.

I used a black sharpie when I traced the picture onto the wood. Sounds scary but  It makes t easy to see the black lines under your paint

Put on one coat of acrylic paint. Once it's nice and dry retrace your lines with the black sharpie.

2nd coat of paint. Once it's dry  retrace the lines again with black sharpie. The outline helps bring it to life. It also helps it look nice and finished.

Lesson 23 lm1 Forgiveness

Sorry i've been slacking lately. We just welcomed a beautiful baby into our home.
I saw this quote on sugardoodle. I made alittle handout to attach to a little bag of bit-o-honeys. I thought about attaching it to alittle empty plastic honeybear jar. They had them at a local grocery store for $0.69 but I couldn't think of what to fill the jar with.

Lesson #11&12 lm1 Growing and Muturing in Self Reliance

We talked about what it means to Grow and Mature in Self Reliance. I related it to Planting and Taking care of Garden.
I thought "seeds" would go great with the handout. I found these cute little sunflower seed packs at Winco they were 3/$1.00

Camp Kick off {THE LORAX}

This year our Stake Camp Theme is "Oh The Places You'll Go!" by Dr. Seuss. Each ward was given a color and a value. We have Yellow, and Good works.
The stake asked each ward to choose a Dr. Seuss book to use as a ward theme. Our YCL's decided on The Lorax. I think it will be so fun especially with the new movie that just came out!
We had our Camp kick-off. We use this night to introduce the theme to the girls and to have parents fill out and sign the necessary paperwork.
Here's our invitation. They didn't know our theme yet so we wanted to give them a subtle little hint.

Our YCL's made up a cute little skit to introduce our Lorax theme. It turned out soo cute!
We also had yummy Lorax themed treats

Our Humming "gold" Fish

Chocolate Teddy Graham Barb-a-loots and Marshmallows

Chocolate Lorax Mustaches
I bought the chocolate mold HERE
I bought white Almond Bark from Walmart and used an OIL BASED food coloring to dye it yellow.

Swomee-Swan Nests
I just melted 1-bag of Butterscotch chocolate chips, and stirred in 2-bags 6oz crunchy chow mein noodles. Then topped them with jellybeans

Truffula Tree Sugar Cookies.
I saw this idea on Pinterest. HERE We just used Buttercream frosting instead of Royal Icing.
Right after you get the cookies out of the oven (While they are still hot) just poke the paper straw through the cookie.

The night turned out great and our girls are so excited for our Lorax themed Girls camp

New Beginnings 2012

We had our new beginnings a few weeks ago and I thought I'd post a few things that we did. We got the theme idea from the blog Go Forward with Faith. Our girls loved it!

The invitations

We made these 4x6 invitations

And attached them to the cute "tickets" Found HERE.

This was the invitation for the night

We had a "playbook" for all the girls when they came in. (The parents LOVED this)

Here are a few things we put in their playbooks
Important dates for the year

A team roster

a list of the combined YM/YW activities for the year

The Pregame Pep Talk Schedule (lesson Schedule)
And a Practice Schedule (Activity schedule)
The Mia Maids were in charge of the Game for the night. They did a great job. They had questions about Personal Progress, and the new Strength of Youth booklet.
We were just in our RS room so we didn't go too crazy with decorations.

The Sunday before New Beginnings I had all the classes set  Goals for the Year. I had them displayed at New Beginnings and talked a little about them. We have this hanging in our YW room every Sunday to remind them to work on their goals!

For Food we served YUMMY Nachos. We just had chips, cheese, salsa, guacamole, Cafe Rio Style Chicken and Sweet pork, Sour Cream, Olives, etc... We just had water bottles for the drink. The night was a Huge Success and everyone had a great time!
